Styling: Clove Community Arts
In this short term rental section of the journal we are featuring some of our favorite properties we have photographed that you can also spend a weekend in. Come with us on a tour and get a behind the scenes look at working with Shelter Upstate.
Clove Community Arts is a multi-use healing arts space in the Catskills. They offers weekly yoga classes in their studio, and both the studio space and the large apartment above it are available to rent out for retreats and workshops. The yoga studio has large windows that overlook the yard and creek behind the house. I’ve been told that in the summertime there are post yoga plunges in the creek. It’s a pretty spectacular setting for mind body healing.
Sunlight streams in through the windows of the studio. Yoga here is a dream. The top left photo shows the entryway and storefront.
I’m obsessed with this wall and wanted to highlight it by setting up a shot with Winona and adding some bolsters and blankets for meditation. This large scale abstract mural is by local painter and musician Shana Falana. See more of her work here.
Upstairs the apartment is decorated in colors that compliment the studio below. Access is gained through a separate entrance, meaning that the studio and apartment can be rented out separately or together. The bedrooms are all spacious and light filled and minimally decorated. For styling I focused on adding accessories - rugs, pillows, slippers, candles, books, lamps etc.
Greys, pinks and browns provide a soothing backdrop for slumber. Dried lavender sits on on top of the dresser, adding a soothing fragrance. Scent is an important and often overlooked part of decorating and wellness.
The main bathroom boasts a farmhouse sink and vintage tub. The colorful shower curtain is from Quiet Town. You wouldn’t necessarily think that all the colors in this bathroom compliment each other, but they do and make it such a fun happy space. The best way to experiment with color is just to try mixing and matching and see what lights you up.
