Around Town: Woodstock
Back in 2020 I started working on a collaboration where I was photographing towns in the Hudson Valley. Covid hit and the project ground to a halt in the spring when we weren’t supposed to leave our homes, and most businesses were closed. Once work picked up again in June I was slammed with home shoots and didn’t come back to this project again. Three years later it’s hard to look at these images, as at the time I was battling what I think was a three month long bought of Covid-19, so there is a strange cast to these images in my memory, however they still deserve to live in the world, not just on my hard drive. One day I hope to revisit this project in a new way. These were shot on a Sony RX-100.
These images were made as a diaristic exploration of stores and unique spots in local towns, for that reason, these images are un-retouched, with only light color corrections. Looking back on the images from Woodstock I think we were right at the start of Covid when lots of places were closed already but I was still trying to take photographs for the project.
Two of my favorite places to eat in Woodstock (my home town), luckily they made it through 2020 and are still going strong!
As a person who loves houses, one of my places local places to visit on the reg is Little House. They have an enviable collection of vintage drinkware and lamps, great art books, cards, and my favorite little incense burners.
This visit to Woodstock Way Hotel started my obsession with Lail Pottery. Ceramic artist Brad Lail’s go-to coffee mugs and plates are sure to be found in many a Hudson Valley kitchen. in fact, I’m drinking a coffee out of one as I write this blog!
