Her dinner party manifesto is simple: “Welcoming friends into your home and gathering around the table is really what’s special,” she explains. “Sharing food feeds more than just bellies. It’s what helps us stay connected, form new relationships and lasting bonds with our chosen families.”

The artist Jesse Bransford on the porch of his octagonal home in Catskill, which he bought in 2013. The home sits in a grove of black walnut trees, adjacent to a tulip poplar that is as old as the house. “The property is completely sequestered in the midst of the village. Many people I meet don’t even know it’s here,” he says.
